Fundamental Concepts of Human Behavior

Based on research into human behavior, the following five concepts explain what makes humans “tick.”

  1. All human behavior is goal-directed. The primary goal of all humans is to belong and to feel significant. This striving for belonging and significance is the basis for motivation. Only through contribution to the work process do individuals feel purposefulness, belonging, and meaning, which lead to job satisfaction and by which work teams sustain high morale.
