Faith

"I just got the news from Coach," he said."I'm really happy for you, Martin. I pushed for you. All the coaches did, actually. How's your ankle?"

"Doing great. Gus had this guy Don work on it and it was like a miracle."

"Don's amazing. I had this bad knee once. For years it killed me. One of those football injuries they say that will never go away. But Don worked on it once and made it pain-free ever since. Simply amazing. So, are you ready? It's going to be a big week for you coming up.

"I know. Biggest week of my life. But I think I'm ready."

"Do you have faith that you will make the team?" Coach Ken asked as he cocked his head to the side and squinted.

"Yes, I do, Coach."

"What do you have faith in, Martin?" he said, lowering his voice.

"Myself," Martin responded.

"What else?"

Martin paused. "In you, Coach. I have faith in you. You've given me such a boost."

"And what else?" Coach asked, waiting for the right answer.

But Martin didn't give it, and Coach knew he couldn't force it. He just shook his head and told Martin he would see him later. He had become a fisher of men and he knew that you had to wait until they were ready. Try to catch them too soon and you would lose them. Martin just wasn't ready to bite yet, and no matter how much he wanted Martin to have faith, Martin was the one that had to desperately want it, seek it, and receive it.
