U.S. companies have implemented total quality management (TQM) and just-in-time (JIT) purchasing techniques to improve their global competitive position. The lack of empirical research on these techniques in relation to firms' performance is the motivation to further explain their strategic value in different types and sizes of organizations in this book. This study examines the relation of TQM and JIT purchasing with respect to firms' performance based on theories from the fields of operations management, organization theory, strategic management and marketing.
