17. Tools
What is a tool? It’s a device that carries out a dedicated function. You use tools to get specific things done.
On a Windows 8.1 computer or tablet, a tool is an app with a singular purpose. Tools—sometimes called utilities—tend to do one small thing and that thing only. You have particular need, fire up the tool to take care of it.
So when we’re talking about tools in the Windows Store, we’re talking apps that do some typically small but necessary tasks. Just as you have a variety of tools in your garage, you can have a variety of tool apps on your Windows 8.1 PC.
