Top 10Orchard Road

Orchard Road gets its name from the plantations that sprouted here in the 1830s at a time when nutmeg was an important cash crop, along with fruits, spices, and pepper. By the mid-1800s, the nutmeg plantations had been wiped out by disease. Around the same time, the European population grew larger, demanding more space. Orchard Road cut through a narrow valley and suffered terrible floods, but once drainage plans were in place, businesses settled in the area to serve the colonial expatriate community. In 1958, C.K.
