REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RESPONSE)

A request for proposal is a document that specifies requirements and expectations potential vendors must satisfy. Interested vendors then prepare a response.

Good responses to a proposal include the following characteristics. First, they cover three components: technicality (e.g., standards), management (e.g., legal), and cost (e.g., payment schedule). Second, they are written clearly. Third, they have been reviewed for accuracy and from a legal perspective. Fourth, they follow the requested format.

A well-written response to a proposal request offers two benefits. It enhances the reputation of the firm, and it encourages a teaming environment, even if the firm doesn’t win a project.
