Lesson 10. FileVault

Prior to OS X Lion, the Apple solution for protecting user data involved encrypting just the user’s home folder content. This system, now dubbed Legacy FileVault, came with a list of caveats about issues that would prevent many system features and third-party software applications from behaving as expected. Further, it did not meet the security requirements of many organizations that required full-system volume encryption.
