11Set Solid and Stretch Goals

Most serious goals come in two flavors: solid and stretch. Solid goals are those objectives that offer you some challenge, but in essence are practical and doable (for example, taking a family vacation to Disneyworld, saving enough money for your child to attend a good college, or finishing a 5K race within 30 minutes— when your last, best time was 35). Solid goals make up an important part of your achievement inventory and can give you a tremendous feeling of accomplishment.

Stretch goals, on the other hand, require more of a leap of faith in what you are capable of creating. They come from your deeper dreams, imagination, and desires, and require conviction in your ability to rise to the challenges they present ...
