Network Sniffers

Network sniffers are typically software packages that capture network packets passing by on the network and can be configured to capture all the data they see or be set up to filter traffic for specific types of information or from specific addresses. Sniffers can also perform searches for specific data or tests, such as network performance figures. Network sniffers can be used in particular to hunt for illicit servers that are running on your network. An illicit server is similar to a network sniffer; it monitors and captures packets of data running across a network to capture data.
