Necessary Components to Good Security
To start this chapter, let's quickly review the necessary components of a good security implementation. As you will probably hear time and time again, there is no one solution for strong security. There are only smaller components that together bring a unilateral defense against hacking and intrusions on your network. These components include
A capable IDS software package
A strong antivirus software package (for both servers and workstations)
Network monitoring and access restriction software or hardware, such as a firewall, to limit certain network access both in- and outbound
Regular auditing and a solid network security plan
Educating and training users as to the do's and don'ts of good network security
