#4: Don’t Focus on Merely Being Employed

When you get a new job, the tendency is to 1) be relieved and 2) hope you can stay there as long as possible. And if it doesn’t work out, you go back to wondering, Where are the jobs?

When you’re focused on merely being employed, you’re not thinking about what matters even more, both now and in the future—which is, how to keep yourself employable.

That means thinking about new ways you could apply your talents and interests as the world, your industry, and the company change.

Thinking like this means you’re less likely to be in that constant state of asking, “Where’s my next job?” or trying desperately to hold on to the job you’ve got.
