#9: Don’t Wear Overkill Jewelry, Makeup, and Other Accessories

What may be great for a party doesn’t fit at work. So no huge earrings or clanging bracelets.

The same goes for other accessories such as hats and giant scarves. And make sure you remove any electronic doodads that are hanging on your body. Remember the man who walked into an interview wearing iPod earphones that I mentioned in Chapter 3? As Kevin Sheridan, senior vice president of HR Optimization at Avatar HR Solutions said, it was “not a great first impression during the handshake.”

Watch out for too much makeup, perfume, or cologne, and also for smelling like smoke. And stay away from two-inch long, neon-colored nails that look like weapons.
