#14: Don’t Say “Goo Moring”

Yes, “goo moring” is exactly how someone began an e-mail to an employer. And this person didn’t get the time of day.

Employers don’t mess around with careless communications, misspellings, and typographical errors. Of the 500 hiring managers SHRM polled, 58 percent said typos or grammatical errors in a cover letter and/or resume “were a major problem/deal breaker.” Forty-one percent said they were somewhat of a problem. That only leaves 1 percent who said, Typo? No problemo.

There’s just something about a typo or other error staring up at you from the page. There’s no denying it. And to an employer it says “sloppy worker.”
