#3: Don’t Talk About Money, Perks, and Other “What Will You Do for Me?” Items

Other turnoffs—especially in the first interview or communication—include these questions: How many hours a week am I expected to work [when it’s a salaried position]? Do we get free coffee?

For Rob Basso it’s also this one: How many sick days do you offer?

“It drives me crazy,” he says—especially when an applicant asks in the first five minutes. Or “‘Is there a place I can take a smoke break?’ It’s hard to overlook a comment like that.”
