63. What Are LinkedIn Groups?
LinkedIn Groups enable its members to join a smaller network of connections within the site. At the top of the home page, members can click the Groups tab. Then a drop-down menu displays several options including Group Directory. When you click Group Directory, you can pick a group that represents your industry or area of interest (see Figure 8-6). Think of these groups as a special areas on the site that enable you to talk about things you find of interest; they are niche areas for people with common interests.
There are several reasons to join groups:
- Building relationships with your industry peers
- Sharing information, practices, tips, and tricks
- Exchanging knowledge and challenging timely discussions
- Finding and posting jobs
- Developing possible partnerships
Beware that when you join a group, a badge is displayed on your profile page. So, you may not want to join that “Justin Beiber 4-Ever” group.
