images 55. What Are Facebook Lists?

Facebook came out with a way to filter your friends so that you can better target updates and improve your security settings for the various types of content that you put on your personal page. This can be particularly useful if you have many different types of contacts that blur the line between personal connections and professional connections.

Under Facebook's privacy settings, you can select which lists or individuals can or cannot access the varying information. How you filter these settings will be based on what you feel comfortable with and what types of content usually find their way onto your page.

If you have many friends from college connected to your account, but also have a lot of business associates, you may want to consider that photos posted on your page by others are only viewable by college friends. That will reduce the risk of colleagues seeing pictures of last weekend's escapades. Also, if you have a lot of family connected, controlling those photos may help to prevent your friends and colleagues from being able to see images for you in funny situations from your childhood (like that picture of you on the toilet when you first got potty-trained)!
