images 46. What Are the Different Types of Facebook Pages?

There are certain technical nuances for setting up a business presence on Facebook that you need to be aware of before you start. Before you spend countless hours frustrated, review the difference between an individual Profile page on Facebook (see Figure 7-2) versus a Facebook page for businesses or brands (see Figure 7-3).

Facebook has made a clear distinction between Profiles and Pages. The bottom line: Profiles are only for individuals and Pages are for brands (for example, businesses, entertainment, products, and public figures). Profiles and Pages have different features. Certain features are not permitted for business pages but are available to individual profiles. Businesses are allowed to have only a Page but not a Profile page. A business that opens a Profile is in direct violation of Facebook's Terms of Service (TOS). Some of the differences follow:

  • Pages enable any Facebook users to “like” the brand, but access to the individual Profile pages is limited.
  • Pages cannot access the Profiles of its fans. A user can “like” the page without risking privacy issues. ...
