Electronic properties and adsorption behaviour of thin films with polar character

Abstract:

Thin films of polar nature are distinctively different from their non-polar counterparts. They feature characteristic properties in their surface morphology, electronic structure and adsorption behaviour, which originate from the effort of such systems to lower the polarity-induced electrostatic energy. This chapter provides insight into the general concepts of polarity and typical polarity healing mechanisms.
