1 – Introduction

This book is not about watercolors, Vectorworks, Logic Pro, or Photoshop, this book is about the thought process that must underlie any design. The medium does not matter. Ideas matter first and foremost. We design specifically for a particular production of a specific script, at a specific time and place.

There is a joke in the graphic design world; Practise safe design; use a concept. It’s really no joke. Good design must be based on a good idea, and not simply what looks good, or the skills employed to make the presentation look good. It’s unfortunately possible to make a bad design beautiful; on paper and on stage.
