Preface

This book covers a lot of territory en route to a single goal; understanding how to conceptualize a design, express the design idea, and create stage evocative pictures. Maybe that doesn’t sound singular, but it is one path with one objective. You may find a long and winding road, but it’s still one path.

Most all of the topics touched on here are worthy of an entire book, books, or a lifetime of study. The primary topic is creating a proper basis for good design. Design is never merely appearance, Design in theatre is specifically about helping to tell the story; that’s appearance and functionality.
