Abstract

Batch processes make products in units that hold no more than one batch at a time. Something has to move gas, liquid, or solid materials in and out of the units. The materials move along a route that usually consists of pipes and valves, transfer panels, or hoses. Conveyors, wheelbarrows, or trucks may be used for solids.

Sources can be warehouses, storage tanks, or units. Destinations can be units, storage tanks, or warehouses. The route may include a filter. The flow may be measured. The route may have to be cleaned or sterilized before or after or before and after the transfer.
