What We’ve Learned So Far

This was a slightly more advanced chapter, but I think you were up for it. Once you start writing tests on your own, you will start to develop your own feeling and rules of thumb around what grouping strategies make sense for your project and which don’t.

The big takeaway from this chapter is that how you organize your tests makes a big difference in your ability to change them, that there is no one way, and you’ve got lots of options. So don’t be afraid to try different things and to mix things up.

However, these two things will definitely help:

  • Keep your tests focused and isolated—and don’t try to test too many things at once.
  • Group similar tests by context, as it’s much easier on your brain.
