CHAPTER 7 Movement

There have been many films made without movement. Chris Marker’s 1964 film La Jette uses only still photographs, as do many historical documentaries. But there is always movement, even in a still photograph. Movement can be created in four different ways: actual, apparent, induced, and relative.

Actual Movement

Actual movement occurs only in the real world. Almost everything in our three-dimensional world that moves is classified in this category. Walking people, flying birds, and moving cars are examples of the constant actual movement we see every day.

Apparent Movement

When one stationary object is replaced by another stationary object, the change between the two objects may be perceived as the movement of a single object. ...
