8. Putting It All Together

Whether you’re building a small hut or a colossal castle, the process of designing, building, and furnishing your creation is very satisfying. Experimenting with different shapes, adding depth, playing with color, and varying materials can make even the simplest structure a work of art.

Breaking a complex structure down into simple shapes is a great way to figure out how to replicate it. A standard house might be a cuboid with a triangular roof. The drum towers of medieval castles, lighthouses, and submarines are all, at their most basic, cylinders.

Creating Shapes

Even though the Minecraft world is made up of square blocks, you can still make circular shapes (Figure 8.1).
