Frequency Correction

There are a number of occasions where we want to alter the frequency response of a channel in a sound desk for technical or artistic reasons:

To match the response of one type of microphone with another, so that when cross-fading there is no obvious difference in quality.

To match the quality of sound on a film insert to studio sound.

To simulate effects such as telephone speech.

To improve clarity by, for example, putting in bass-cut to reduce the effects of low-frequency reverberation.

To compensate for the fact that a microphone has to be in a position where it cannot pick up optimum sound quality.
