Lighting Control: Dimmers (Digital)

The use of micro-computer consoles and DMX 512 control signals has led to the development of the digital dimmer, using a digital system from the console to the processing of the control signal in the dimmer. Except for very basic installations all future dimming systems will use digital dimmers, which afford sophisticated control and improved reliability.

Advantages of digital dimmers

Cheap (should remove the need for a patch panel).

Better control of regulation (consistent law).

Faster response time to required lighting changes.

Processing in dimmer to give required dimmer law.

DMX protocol operation.

High reliability with consistent performance.

Protection against overloads and short-circuits. ...
