Lighting: Special Luminaires

These can be categorised as luminaires used for cyclorama lighting and for special effects lighting.

Cyclorama lighting

The most efficient method is to use luminaires especially designed for this purpose. A ground row produces a ‘natural’ effect i.e. lighter at the horizon, with gradual reduction in illumination towards the top of the eye. The multiunit allows for colour mixing on a white cyc. The disadvantage of the ground row is the studio floor space it takes up, and the need to hide the lighting units behind suitable scenery (coving).
