Monitoring the Vision Signal

Two aspects of the vision signal which need constant monitoring are quality and quantity. Picture quality can be best assessed by reference to a correctly aligned colour monitor; again it cannot be stressed too much that the correct alignment of the colour monitor is of paramount importance for consistently good pictures. Many subjective assessments are made by reference to it.

The quantity or amplitude of the vision signal is best assessed by reference to an accurate waveform monitor (oscilloscope) which displays the picture information as a graph of continuously varying electrical signal which should be contained between the limits of black level and peak white.
