HT and Serializing Instructions

Refer to “Serializing Instructions” on page 1079 for a description of what a serializing instruction is.

When a logical processor executes a serializing instruction, only the execution of that thread is affected. The following serializing instructions are exceptions to this rule:

  • WBINVD.

  • INVD.

  • WRMSR.

  • A move into CR0 wherein CR0[CD] is modified.

In those cases, both threads are serialized.
