Chapter 29. Phony caller ID
Phony caller ID is a real boon. If you get a call from someone you don’t wish to speak to, you merely let your answering machine take the call. If it is someone you do wish to speak to, the caller ID screen tells you who is calling, so you don’t have to worry about recognizing her voice.
However, caller ID isn’t always accurate. Identity thieves are able to manipulate caller ID systems so that telephone calls from them appear to be from someone else, such as, for instance, the local district court.
