The joke is on you, or at least it should be

“Laughter is the best medicine”—or so says the old expression. Certainly, many people intuitively see laughter as good for you. Some studies indicate that laughter may even provide benefits, such as healthier blood vessels, improved immune system response, lower blood sugar levels and better relaxation.1 But what does laughter and humour do for creativity? What benefits can you expect? Quite a few, is the answer.

Humour can:

  • help people to think broadly and to be themselves;
  • reveal personal qualities;
  • assemble new information and associations;
  • arrive at unexpected destinations;
  • build conversation;
  • counter stressful conditions;
  • share truths.
