Map your journey before you explore

It is important to know where you want to go—and why—before you creatively explore. It is too easy sometimes to start applying your creative tools to a problem area, before really thinking through the reasoning behind the existence of the problem.

Organisations regularly face weighty, difficult issues. It is also fair to say that at any given point in time, there are a number of talented, well-meaning people inside those organisations who are trying to find solutions to wrong problems. They stand a chance of misdiagnosing the situation by not first appreciating the issue. Sadly, the pressures and systems of offices can often lead to an approach of shoot first and ask questions later.
