In a tight labor market, it’s tempting to try to interview anybody with any promise. Shouldn’t you cast your net far and wide to create a better pool of candidates? Especially when the employment history, educational background, and credentials look right on target on the application and resume, don’t you want to get that qualified candidate in your door as soon as possible?

You may find yourself interviewing applicants who don’t have the basic necessities for the job, like the applicant for the mechanic’s position who doesn’t have a driver’s license.
