Warming Up

The next two weeks went by quickly for both Lou and Steph but for different reasons.

Lou had client-related travel to New York City. One of his oldest clients had moved his headquarters to the city, and once a year Lou personally went there as a favor to his client, who paid very generously for the visit. At dinner one night, Lou’s client—Henrico Ramirez, CEO of HR Associates, a boutique international Hispanic consulting firm focusing on Latin America—told Lou that he was considering selling his business and asked Lou his opinion.

“I’m not sure I can answer that question for myself and my own business, let alone for you, Henrico.”

“You and I are about the same age and unfortunately the same weight!” Henrico said, smiling ...
