Defining “corporate culture” is like defining artwork or country music. Some forgotten philosopher at one time helpfully quipped, “If it sounds like country, then it’s country.” For that insight, the world is forever grateful. Or when it comes to artwork, one can turn to Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart who clarifyingly proclaimed, “I know art, and this is not that.”

There are oodles of scholarly articles and papers trying to characterize and capture the notion of “corporate culture.” Perhaps the definitive work is Dr. Larry Senn’s, “Organizational Character as a Methodological Tool,” published in 1969.
