A team that avoids accountability

An important aspect of creating a high-performance team is ensuring that team members take accountability for their actions and performance. When a team is fragmented or relationships become brittle and, most importantly, when the service provided by the team is below the required standard, you must take action.

First, think:

  • How does their avoidance of accountability manifest itself? When did the performance decline start? Was there a specific catalyst?
  • What feedback have you had from the team? From the wider organisation?
  • What have you already communicated to them with regard to service-level standards? Are individuals within the team clear about their role and contribution and where they should be accountable ...
