Passionate or stubborn people

Passion and stubbornness are emotional responses to a circumstance. Resistance can often simply increase the same response. Until the circumstance is resolved there will be an impact on the performance and delivery of everyone involved. The management challenge is to facilitate the resolution.

First, think:

  • What is your personal history with this individual? Do you really understand what they are stubborn or passionate about? Do you understand why they hold such views?
  • Do you spend enough time with the people in your team or group to know why someone might feel especially stubborn about an issue? Is it possible to address any of this person’s concerns?
