Introduction

 

“Now, tell us some bee jokes, David, using your best bee voice, and then sing a little bee song while you tap dance for us. Just improvise something.”

I had been called in to audition to be the tap-dancing bumblebee for Macy’s annual spring flower show, and now found myself standing in front of a room full of suited executives. I, rather to my dismay, was dressed in an oversized bumblebee costume—complete with a hat with bee-like antennas—and of course my tap shoes. And … they kept referring to me as “Buzz.” Speaking in a bee voice while trying to think of relevant jokes to tell, as well as coming up with a song and dance on the fly (no pun intended) was just the icing on the cake.
