In this chapter, the wide range of fixed-income securities is described. They include bonds issued by the U.S. government, federally agency securities, corporations, and municipalities, as well as bonds backed by a pool of loans or receivables: asset-backed securities, residential mortgage-backed securities, and commercial mortgage-backed securities. We begin with the general features of fixed-income securities.
