Monitoring

The first and perhaps most important thing to appreciate is that unless you have a monitoring system that is reasonably accurate, you’ll never be able to create a mix that translates reliably to the outside world, because you have no means of knowing what your mix really sounds like. That may sound obvious, but it is surprising how often we encounter monitoring systems that are quite simply not up to the job.
