Chapter 7 Performances

The audience is an essential component of theatre. Performing in front of a live audience is what makes our art form different from television or film and keeps the experience new and fresh every night. Each time the house lights dip to half, the entire company takes a leap together—hoping that everything will unfold as planned, and that all the work will pay off.

The audience on night forty deserves to see the same show as those in attendance on opening night. The stage manager's responsibility to maintain the artistic and technical components of the production is what makes this possible.
