1. CAPTCHA: Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart (see www.captcha.net) is a program that protects websites against bots by generating and grading tests that humans can pass, but that current computer programs cannot. This term was coined in 2000 by Luis von Ahn, Manuel Blum, Nicholas Hopper, and John Langford of Carnegie Mellon University. At the time, they developed the first CAPTCHA to be used by Yahoo! For example, humans can read distorted text like that shown in Figure 5.3, but current computer technology cannot.

2. Atom is an XML-based document format that describes attributes of a file known as feeds. Feeds are composed of a number of items known as entries. Atom is used to syndicate web content such as blogs, podcasts, and news to websites and aggregation pages.
