Concentration diagrams

What the tool is

This is a visual representation, built up over some time, of where a problem or defect is occurring. At the centre of the diagram is, for example, a picture of a product, a machine, a process, a map of an area, a floor plan of an office or factory, and the diagram is annotated with marks indicating where a problem has occurred. This is a useful tool in ensuring that the right problem is being solved and that the focus is in the most appropriate area.

When to use it

  • To discover exactly where a problem is occurring, which may, in turn, reveal patterns of occurrence of the problem.
