SEVEN TIPS FOR SHOOTING STAGE PLAYS
1. Learn to anticipate actor movement
One thing you’ll have to contend with when shooting plays, more so than other types of live stage events, is unpredictable actor movement. In an ideal world, you’d be able to attend rehearsals and become intimately familiar with the full blocking of the play, but just like in real life, you will rarely find yourself in that ideal situation. Even if you are able to attend a rehearsal or two, chances are slim that you’ll be able to note all of the moments when actors stand up, sit down, dash across stage, or otherwise may move out of (or into) your shot. And even if you do take careful notes, keep in mind that actors don’t always do things the same way twice.
