Mounting Shotgun Mics

One of the very first things you’ll want to add to your equipment package after purchasing a camera is a decent shotgun mic. I recommend also purchasing a good shockmount accessory like the one here with a “shoe” to mount it directly on the camera and minimize handling noise, especially when you are shooting handheld.

On the cheaper side, you can always use the camera’s standard mic mount, but one common problem you may find is that these simple mounts are too big for the particular mic you are using and the mic will not sit still or even stay in the mount once you start moving.
