Working with Teleprompters

Teleprompters are invaluable for live presentations; long-form programs; or pretty much any scripted news, info, or reality-based project. Here’s a little-known secret of some of your favorite TV talent: they are not nearly as fluid, natural, funny, or confident without a teleprompter directly in front of them telling them exactly what to say. If you’ve heard the term but aren’t familiar, teleprompters are the special monitors rigged in front of (or right near) a camera to reflect a scrolling script on one-way mirrored glass. The camera lens shoots through the one-way glass from the nonreflective side, so the script is never visible to camera, only to the talent in front of the camera.
