BASIC LIGHTING SAFETY

I already covered lighting safety in more detail in The Shut Up and Shoot Documentary Guide, but here are a few quick reminders worth repeating:

Always call “Striking!” as a warning to the crew before you turn on a light.

Use only heavy-duty extension cords in the 12–16 gauge range.

Make sure all lights are securely tightened onto the stands.

Use sand bags to weigh down all lights to keep them from falling.
