Bracketing Your Audio

One practical recording technique that you can use to help cover your butt when recording audio from a single mie or other single audio input is bracketing. Bracketing is a term that refers to recording the same audio signal to two different channels at slightly different levels. The idea is that if there are sudden rises or dips in the sound level (or if you just flake out for a moment and allow a stretch of dialog to overmodulate), at least one of those channels is likely to capture that section of audio more clearly, and that’s the one you’ll use. Remember, you can easily copy and paste to mix either (or both) audio channels in your Ν LE during postproduction.
