DYNAMIC VERSUS CONDENSER MICS

Most music venues have a combination of mics—condenser and dynamic. The Shure SM57s and SM58s are a popular choice. They are dynamic mics, which means that they don’t need phantom or battery power. Often they are used in a lot of club situations because they can handle high SPLs, or loud volumes, sudden transients, and screaming without distorting. Dynamic mics are less sensitive and more rugged. You can drop them.(Although it’s not advised.) You can put them in front of a drum kit. They just have a lower sensitivity to bigger sounds.
