HIRING MAKEUP PROS

What to Expect

If you do decide to hire a professional makeup artist, make sure that you check out their portfolio or website first. Look at their previous work to make sure their style(s) and sensibilities match what you’re looking for. Find out what requirements they might need of you on set. (See the list below.) Also, it’s standard for makeup artists and certain other professionals on set to charge an additional fee known as a kit rental. That means that you’re paying for their services, but you’re also paying for the use of their supplies—in this case, makeup. Kit rental prices will vary some from professional to professional, depending on how big their kit is and how big your job is. Ask up front.
